Maybe my son's situation is very unusual and so doesn't warrent discussion, but here goes anyway:
My son Chris Keeling is studying on the MTB course at Borders College in southern Scotland. I live and work in Kathmandu and so will not see him until next summer. Chris is booked on the Kinlochleven Enduro race on 19 and 20 November (next week), but we have found it impossible to arrange getting him up to the race (which is on the coming weekend).
No family friends can run him there, and public transport is not really an option, and it's the Scottish winter, which makes roughing it not an option. Ok, almost all riders will have their own transport. My point is that the choice of location and the time of year rule out younger riders from most of the UK who do not easily have their own transport or a person willing to transport them there and hang around for the weekend.
So the issues are:
1. Any suggestions about how we could help people like Chris to get a lift to events.
2. A race/location further south in the UK earlier on in the year would have have much more accessible for the most UK riders.
